When you don't know where life is going? Do four actions
I have a question that I heard from a friend who was eliminated from the company a year ago.
"I don't know what to do with my life"
This is a question that I ask every year as well as the questioner. A week ago, I wrote something that I thought about and eventually put my thoughts in order (link)
I think it's everyone's agonizing question, so I share the solution. And when I'm confused, I've written what routine I use to solve the confusion.
I have a concern. My mind is impatient, I'm getting older, and my parents are getting older. I think I was worse than my peers, and I hate myself for being uncomfortable and incompetent. I don't know where I'm going. And I don't think there's going to be anything in two years. What do you do when you're at a loss?
I think this is a concern for everyone, not just the questioner. I think about it every year, and even a month ago, I came up with solutions while thinking, "How do I get through this period?"
In particular, it is a concern that people with N tendencies inevitably have to do. As shown in Reversal Chapter 7, humans are happy for a certain period of time when they achieve something. But the dopamine levels drop. You're being whipped to "develop." In the process, I wonder, "Where will it end?" and "What am I moving toward?" You'll be hit with reality.
Humans are beings who have no choice but to look up and compare. First of all, you have to admit it. The 100 billionaire looks at the chairman on it. The chairman compares it to the above. Looking at Samsung and LG conglomerates. Samsung also looks at the world's top 30 companies. And they look at Alan Musk and Jeff Bezos. Do you think these two are the end? Compare yourself with past geniuses. After all, every human has an instinct to compare. You don't have to blame yourself for comparing yourself.
1st Conclusion: Not only you but also I have it and the world has it. Let's be aware of this first.
Now, how can we be wise to deal with such a situation? Recently, I also started to have philosophical concerns. I couldn't solve it for a month, so I was worried. As a result, I gave you an answer. When I'm confused and at a loss, I'll explain how I analyze the cause and what's my resolution routine.
Causes of confusion and blame:
This is because they do not "think" but only practice in front of them. When humans are pushed out of competition, fear is instinctively ahead and amygdala is activated. It is difficult to use the power of 'reason' (see reverse). No one has philosophical concerns when a tiger runs. Because survival is more important. In the end, the practice in front of me is a tiger, and with amygdala activated, I cannot establish a long-term strategy.
What should I do in this situation? I think my solution is 'how much time do I get to think in a day' is the answer. Strategic tactics come out only when the "time to think" is confirmed. In other words, you have to take time by reversing your mental instinct while only working.
According to the book Shudock, Nike's founder experiences five situations on the brink of a strike in 17 years. He has been suffering from debt for 17 years and suffers and struggles every day. But he ran 10km every day. Nike founder Phil Knights endured the crazy psychological pressure because he organized his thoughts by "securing time."
Under psychological pressure, you can't see a wide range of views. "I don't have time to exercise..." "I don't have time to walk..." After all, this is a naive way of thinking. They fail to reverse their instincts, suffer from practice under psychological pressure, and eventually lose their direction. As stress persists, the amygdala becomes active and suffers from burnout.
I always have the following routine when the above situation occurs. I had similar concerns every year for 10 years, and I read so many experiments, verifications, and brain science books. The conclusion is twofold.
1. Securing Time
2. Thinking with a certain rhythm movement (must leave your cell phone behind)
Example
- Riding a bike for 30 minutes slowly
- Running 20 minutes (6 to 7 KM running very slow enough to run 2 hours)
- Thinking for an hour while walking at night. Get out with a note and a pen.
- Spacing out on the bench alone for 30 minutes.
- Mandatory - Make sure to take notes. Don't be impatient because you don't have to write anything.
This time is a time to organize thoughts and to set directions. When you walk or move in a certain pattern, your brain enters 'dream mode' (if you don't know dream mode, you really have to turn around). As a result, we find the right answer to solve all the current problems. Or thoughts are organized, and confusion is organized.
If you only do it in practice, problems arise. There is a lot of input every day, which is avoided. I become obsessed with this because I am a tiger in practice. Input (intellectual, learning) becomes an unorganized situation in the brain.
Eventually, input and problems to be solved accumulate, which eventually turns into stress. For example, I was pointed out by my boss for working during the day. I have to work here first, so I work first. And I sleep without time to think even after work.
In this case, the unconscious remains pointed out by the boss. However, he repeats the practice without organizing his thoughts on how to solve this part. And the next day another second point comes up. It's stressful, but I do practical work first. Eventually, about 10 problems accumulate like this. The brain keeps trying to deal with this input problem unconsciously, and it is overloaded. The amygdala is activated. If this is repeated, a burnout state comes, or the work processing speed slows down in overloaded information. The feeling of lethargy persists.
Practice lags behind others, and one's dreams fall apart. It's because I'm not organized.
When you have a complicated mind, walk as I said before. Riding a bike, or running slowly. If there is no time to organize your thoughts, you will surely lose your direction in life. Stress overloads. If you move, many thoughts will be sorted out every day. It won't be sorted out at once. However, whenever you are confused, that routine brings together organized information and gives your brain its own "solution." And I gain confidence.
Finally, I will go back to the question and answer it again.
"I feel like my life is falling behind and I don't know where I'm going"
Answer: Every human being feels left behind. Because I look up.
Then everyone has that feeling, so why am I more at a loss? The amygdala is activated and does not 'reverse' and does not have time to organize thoughts. This has only become a vicious circle. If you break the vicious circle through this article, you can laugh again. Just like I did.
The above was the answer to the consultation article a year ago. Today, I wrote a blog post and modified it by adding current knowledge.
I always worry about the same thing. And you solve it through a routine.
